Flu remedies and flu treatment

There is a lot of flu remedies out there: flu vaccination, influenza vaccine, flu shots, and flu shot clinics in supermarkets or in vans in parking lots. A lot of medicines, and a lot people are claiming that they have the cure.

Sorry, there is no cure for either the flu, or the common cold. It pretty simple. We can ease the symptoms, but not the core virus. Not yet anyway.

Flu Medications

Remember: Flu vaccine and most other flu medicine act only as a preventative, but not as a cure once you've contracted the virus

Usually, you'll need plenty of bed rest and fluids (we suggest water, but about anything else tends to dehydrate) to treat flu. In some cases, a doctor may prescribe an antiviral like oseltamivir (Tamiflu) or zanamivir (Relenza). If you take these shortly after you develop symptoms, you might shorten your illness by a day or so and help prevent serious complications.

Antiviral do have side effects, including both nausea and vomiting. Some anti-virals have been associated with delirium and self-harm behaviors in teenagers.

Flu Remedies

Drink plenty of liquids. Just like mom said. Water, fruit juice and soup are the best• Rest. Sleep helps your immune system fight infection. Get more of it.

Pain relievers. While you might take ibuprofen or Tylenol for yourself, aspirin is not recommended for young children or teenagers do to a rare, but deadly disease.
