Weight Loss Tips: straight from the pros
Many people have their own ideas for how to lose weight, but what do the experts believe? Athletic trainers, nutritionists and experienced dieticians share many of the same values when it comes to losing weight. Americans are often raised on the concept of eating three meals a day while following the food pyramid – a diet plan based heavily on consuming carbohydrates. Oddly enough, many leading nutrition experts say the keys to weight loss may be significantly different for a large number of people.
We've pulled information from all over the Internet to give you some of the best weight loss tips straight from the pros:
Drink lots of water: Staying hydrated will help flush fat and toxins from your body. Water can also work as an appetite suppressant, so drink a glass of water after a snack or a meal. Doing so will help curb the temptation to keep eating.
Eat slowly: If you eat your fast, your body may not have enough time to process what you've already eaten to determine whether you're full. Eating slow and take time chewing your food, and chances are you'll find yourself naturally eating smaller meals.
Avoid processed foods: Processed or packaged foods are often high in chemicals, fats or sugary carbohydrates. Instead, stick to whole grains and fresh fruits and vegetables which are packed with fiber and important nutrients.
Don't forget protein: it's easy for people to not eat enough protein, which is vital for metabolism and lean muscle growth. Always include a source of protein with every meal. If you're worried about taking in too many calories, consider investing in protein powder, shakes and other supplements.
Eat frequent, smaller meals: Forget three meals a day. Try eating five or six meals a day. However, make these meals much smaller than typical meals. The continual intake of food will keep you from feeling overly hungry while providing you with good energy and protein. You'll also be less tempted to gorge yourself in a single sitting.
So remember, eat less and move more. It's not quite that simple (nothing is) but that's what it boils down to.
