What is Low Testosterone?
Low testosterone. Until recently, the effect of low testosterone was not understood. We knew that high levels led to erratic, sometimes violent behavior, but little was known about the effect of low levels.
The causes of low testosterone
First of all, testosterone is a hormone produced in the testes, primarily. In men it helps maintain several important functions in the body, such as:
- Bone density
- Distribution of fat
- Muscle mass and strength
- Production of Red blood cells
- Sexual drive
- Production of sperm
Doctors researching the effects of testosterone levels have found that as men age, the testosterone levels decline. This is somewhat similar to menopause in women, but the effects are less subtle and more telling.
There are many factors that may cause low testosterone, but the main one is simply age. Testosterone production will usually peak in males during early adulthood, and then starts to decline, about 1 percent a year after the age of 30. Age does a lot of things to humans, but affects on the sex drive, stamina and appearance can be especially troubling to males.
Is it low T?
Is it low T when you experience the following:
- Changes in sexual habits and functions. This usually include reduced sexual drive and desire, less spontaneous erections, like during sleep, and even infertility.
- Sleep pattern. Low testosterone can sometimes cause insomnia of sleeplessness.
- Physical changes. Such as, including increased body fat, lessened muscle mass and strength, and decreased bone density. Hair loss has also been linked to low testosterone.
- Emotional changes. You might feel a decrease in motivation or self-confidence. Feelings of depression and sadness, poor concentration and memory are also reported.
The Hormone Replacement Center
The Hormone Replacement Center is a place where you will be evaluated on and case by case basis. After this follows a blood test, the only real way to diagnose low testosterone. If low T is found, then we'll recommend a treatment plan of hormone replacement therapy. Hormone replacement isn't for everyone, and not everyone will have the same experience or beneficial effects from the treatment.
What to take for low sex drive
If you have low testosterone, it can cause a low sex drive, and a slowing down of the bodies energy and even fatty deposits were none existed before. To combat low sex drive, we recommend hormone replacement therapy, under the supervision of a trained medical professional.
