Compact SUV Reviews
The compact SUV is similar to the crossover, But it's grown to be it's own category. Larger than the crossover, the compact SUV is much more like it's fuller sized cousins than the car based crossover, and will not be quite as easy to park as the smaller crossover, or the regular sedan.
Here are our top picks for the compact models. As always, what we like might not be the right one for you. Use this as a list of cars you might like to get a closer look at. If you like these call around see which dealer has the model you're interested and see what deals are being offered.
If you find a good deal, check which deals are dealer incentives, the ones you can get right then, and which might be factory rebates, something you'll have to send away for and might have to wait an extended period. Also, don't be afraid to haggle to get the best deal. Dealers and salesmen expect it and you owe it to yourself to get the best price you can for your new SUV. Don't be afraid to walk and go to another dealer if you can get the deal you need. Often the act of leaving will lead the salesmen to offer a better deal.

The reviews on this SUV were pretty high. From the cabin to the sliding rear seats and the design of the exterior, this SUV got high marks. Some problems, mostly minor were: no 3rd row seating, nice, but uninspired driving experiencing and a few cheaper looking interior materials.
Volkswagen Tiguan
Avg. Paid:$23,480 - $36,676
MSRP: $23,720 - $37,390
Invoice: $22,771 - $35,895
MPG: 19 City / 26 Hwy
Most liked this one form Volkswagen, except for the price, which is the most expensive in this category, especially if you want anything beyond the standard. The good things were the handling of the vehicle itself, very sporty, very nice, quality cabin with flexible seating and the turbocharged engine. Problems include, well the price, if you want something nice, expect to pay for it. Also the that the gas mileage is lower than other in the class ad that it only takes premium fuel doesn't help in costs.
GMC Terrain
Avg. Paid:$24,740 - $31,828
MSRP: $24,250 - $31,400
Invoice: $23,038 - $29,830
MPG: 22 City / 32 Hwy
Great standard features, with a truck look to it (making it popular among men btw), a refined and car-like driving and performance makes it a very popular choice. Has a standard rearview camera, flexible seating, and leading fuel economy. A quiet cabin made from quality materials help make this a top choice. Problems include the price, high for its class, and some love the bold design, other don't.
Toyota Rav4

The 2011 Toyota RAV4 ranks 4 out of 23 Affordable Compact SUVs. This ranking is based on our analysis of 73 published reviews and test drives of the Toyota RAV4, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.
Reviewers call the 2011 Toyota RAV4 one of the most practical and family-friendly SUVs you can buy. While the interior feels cheap compared to the competition, the RAV4 makes up for it by offering seating for up to seven and a powerful V6 engine option.
It can seat up to seven, has nice, car-like handling, great cargo space. Strange cargo door and frankly, most of the competitors have better interiors.
Honda CR-V
Avg. Paid:$21,258 - $29,101
MSRP: $21,695 - $29,895
Invoice: $20,195 - $27,800
MPG: 21 City / 28 Hwy
The 2011 Honda CRV is ranked at the top among affordable compact SUVs for a good reason: it's one of the most practical family SUVs on the market. "It's fun, cute and practical, and it's a bargain," says Cars.com. "What more can a mama ask for?"
Great family car, but no third row option. Lot's of space, and nice standard feature. No options from a more powerful engine.
Hyundai Tucson
Avg. Paid:$18,714 - $25,878
MSRP: $18,895 - $26,345
Invoice: $18,215 - $25,028
MPG: 22 City / 30 Hwy
Hyundai redesigned the Tucson in 2010, and for 2011, little has changed. Reviewers like this SUV because it's priced affordably, but still holds its ground because it offers a competitive features list that includes all-wheel drive and looks good.
The Tucson isn't the best car in the class. It doesn't have much trunk space and its engines aren't powerful, but reviewers like the Tucson for what it is. "The 2011 Hyundai Tucson might not be as big as its main rivals," says Edmunds, "but it makes amends with a handsome cabin, an ample list of features, sporty handling and a low price. It's a top pick for a small crossover."
