Full Sized Truck Reviews

Like most most of the car markets, the full size truck has taken a bit of a hit in the with the rising gas prices, and the movement away from larger cars with a larger appetite for ever larger amounts of fuel , but if you need a truck, then you need a truck. Auto makers know this, so this, so it's a market that isn't going anywhere soon.

A good full size truck will range anywhere from 20-50,000 dollars, depending on the features and add-ons you want. Some come with a good, standard package, others you have to really pay to get the truck you want with the features you want. Shop around, look around, determine what you want/need before you hit the dealers. See out page of buying tips as a guide on what to do before you see the salesmen.

Reviews of Full Size Trucks and Pickups.

Chevrolet Avalanche

Base Price Range: $36,1105-$49,310
EPA MPG Range: 15-21 mpg
Body Style: crew cab

The 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche is largely unchanged. Shopping for a pickup truck primarily for passenger use? Check out the Avalanche. It offers a special blend of useful passenger accommodations, expandable cargo room, big-truck muscle, and friendly road manners.

Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Base Price Range: $20,850-$47,820
EPA MPG Range: 13-23 mpg
Body Styles: regular cab, extended cab, crew cab

The 2011 Chevrolet Silverado sees few changes. A lengthy list of available features, including 4WD that can be used on dry pavement, makes Silverado a Recommended choice for anyone shopping large pickups. Unless you frequently tow heavy loads, the exceptionally refined 5.3-liter V8 should provide more than enough power. The Hybrid model's price premium is significant, but so are the potential gas savings versus a conventional Silverado, particularly in city driving.

Ford F-150

Base Price Range: $22,415-$51,140
EPA MPG Range: NA
Body Styles: regular cab, extended cab, crew cab

The 2011 Ford F-150 lineup receives all new engines, none of which had yet been EPA-rated for fuel economy at the time of this writing. Special editions include the Harley-Davidson SuperCrew crew cab - the only F-150 to offer a full-time 4WD system - and the off-road-oriented Raptor, which for 2011 adds a SuperCrew body style to the returning SuperCab extended cab. Ford pays particular attention to the needs of commercial users, making available such exclusive features as a tailgate step, a computerized tool inventory system with scanner, and a vehicle tracking system. This is one reason the F-150 is a Best Buy among large pickups, but it offers a lot to recreational users as well. Note that while the F-150 is the only large pickup that doesn't offer a factory-installed DVD entertainment system, there is a dual-screen unit that can be dealer installed for about $1,800.

GMC Sierra 1500

Base Price Range: $20,850-$48,190
EPA MPG Range: 13-23 mpg
Body Styles: regular cab, extended cab, crew cab

The 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 sees few changes. For the most part, the Sierra's lineup is a near clone of the Chevy Silverado's except GMC adds the luxury-oriented Denali models. Any truck buyer would be well advised to give these Recommended big rigs a long, hard look. The Hybrid model's price premium is steep, but so are the potential gas savings versus conventional Sierras, especially in city driving.

Nissan Titan

Base Price Range: $26,820-$39,620
EPA MPG Range: 12-18 mpg
Body Styles: extended cab, crew cab

The 2010 Nissan Titan gets revised trim-level designations but is otherwise little changed. Limited to just one engine and two cab configurations, Titan's appeal is narrower than that of its large-pickup competition--especially for commercial users, as there's no regular cab and no 8-foot bed. Titan is an old design compared to others in this class, but it has been updated over the years to be competitive in safety, luxury, and convenience features. If one of its limited offerings suits your needs, this brawny Nissan is worth a look.

Ram 1500

Base Price Range: $20,610-$41,585
EPA MPG Range: 13-20 mpg
Body Styles: regular cab, extded cab, crew cab

The 2011 Ram 1500 lineup gains new off-road and sport-themed models. Ram makes news for impressive ride comfort, creative storage options, and abundant available power. Impressive cabin trappings are a nice bonus that seals this truck as a Best Buy. Chevy, Ford, and Toyota loyalists would do well to have a look. You may well be won over.

Toyota Tundra

Base Price Range: $23,265-$42,455
EPA MPG Range: 14-20 mpg
Body Styles: regular cab, extended cab, crew cab

The 2011 Toyota Tundra gets a more powerful V6 engine, but is otherwise little changed. With Tundra, Toyota is out to appeal to more than just the personal-use truck buyer. This pickup delivers the size, power, and model-configuration options to make it a viable alternative for those who need a big rig for big jobs. Tundra trails the domestic brands in some areas and doesn't stand head-and-shoulders above the rest in any, but it offers enough to earn our Recommended rating.

The full sized truck offers more towing power, more hauling capacity and more room for more stuff. It's a working vehicle, meant for hard jobs that require size and power. If you need a truck, but don't need on this size, you should see our reviews of compact trucks, also on this site.
